A Little About the Island of Vieques:

Vieques is a diverse, relaxed, and friendly place. English and Spanish are both spoken.

As it is a U.S. territory, the currency is the U.S. dollar. The island features just two towns - one on the north coast (Isabel Segunda, bordered by the Atlantic Ocean), and one on the south side (Esperanza, bordered by the Caribbean Sea). The island is 21 miles long, and 3 miles wide.

The majority of the white-sand, turquoise-water Caribbean beaches are on protected National Wildlife Refuge land. There are no big hotels or touristy attractions. It is serene and stunningly beautiful.

The island is also home to a large number of free-range horses. Don't be surprised if you see them on the beach, or even walking right down the street!

The weather during the Ukulele Island Retreat in January tends towards 82 degrees, and sunny. Casual attire and sturdy walking sandals are recommended.

Our guesthouse is on the north coast, one block from the Atlantic Ocean, mind-blowing sunsets, easy walk into town. Our ukulele workshops will mostly take place on south-side Caribbean beaches, where one can always find plenty of shade under a palm tree.  Nightly outdoor jams under the stars in the guesthouse courtyard.

VIEQUES TRAVEL, HEALTH, and SAFETY INFORMATION

  1. Proof of covid vaccination is no longer required to enter Puerto Rico, Vieques, and most businesses on the Island. If you have proof of vaccination, please bring it with you, just in case policies change. (Information current as of October, 2022.)
  2. Guests must be respectful of any safety requirements (such as masking, distancing, etc.) if required by a local business.
  3. Personal Health and Safety: There is no hospital on the Island of Vieques. Health care facilities are minimal and basic. Please consult with your doctor about any concerns regarding your personal health, and the advisability of travel to a location with only basic health care services.
  4. Travel Insurance Recommended. No one books a retreat with the intention of cancelling it, but unexpected events do occur, so please consider purchasing travel insurance. It is your responsibility to read and understand our cancellation policies. Exceptions cannot be made for any reason, including weather, injury/illness, or personal emergencies. We encourage you to purchase trip cancellation insurance in order that your trip fees will be covered should you or your family have an unexpected emergency prior to your trip or while on the trip. Trip insurance should also be purchased to cover medical expenses in the event you have an accident while on the retreat. Most travel insurance must be purchased within 14 days of making your reservation.

CANCELLATION POLICY:

The cancellation policy below is designed to protect both retreat leaders, our hosts, caterers, drivers, other on-island service-providers, and all retreat attendees.

Please note that there will be no refunds or discounts for arriving late, leaving early, flight cancellations, travel delays or illness. If you cancel your participation in the Retreat for any reason, the cancellation policy below will apply, with no exceptions.

We wish we could compensate people for unforeseen circumstances, but we have already incurred expenses that once paid out, we cannot refund.

  1. All deposits are non-refundable.
  2. Payment Balance:
  • The remaining balance (total price, minus deposit) may be paid in 2 equal installments, due on November 1, 2022, and December 1, 2022.
  • 50% Balance (not incl. deposit) will be refunded for cancellation 30 days before event (Dec. 13, 2022).
  • Sorry we are not able to refund your payments if cancellation is less than 30 days before the event.
